A recent survey has cast doubt on the preparedness of companies for the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Despite acknowledging AI’s potential as a “game changer,” a significant portion of executives expressed a lack of confidence in their leadership’s ability to navigate the coming changes.

Around 2,000 CEOs, chief financial officers and other executives in companies across nine countries were surveyed between October and December. The results revealed a fascinating disconnect:

  • AI Seen as Transformational: A strong majority (around 61%) of respondents believe AI is a game-changer for their specific industry. This sentiment was particularly pronounced in the tech sector (82%) and the auto industry (51%).
  • Leadership Readiness in Question: However, a concerning 57% of those surveyed reported a lack of confidence in their own leadership team’s understanding and expertise regarding AI. This suggests a potential skills gap at the executive level.
  • Workforce Impact Anticipated: The survey also highlighted concerns about AI’s potential impact on jobs. Around 41% of executives anticipated a reduction in workforce size within the next five years due to AI implementation.
